Three guys and a girl from Queens with a lot of spunk form the anomaly that is Demetra. Trashy guitars and hard-hitting, danceable beats infused with soulful vocals and pop melodies create a distinctive sound only vaguely reminiscent of artists such as Blondie, No Doubt, and The Clash.
Definite products of the new millennium, they are not afraid to experiment with song form. Though their music is heavily drenched in garage rock and new wave roots, they sometimes add elements of doo-wop, one-drop reggae, punk and hip-hop. They are not afraid to take risks and have fun with their music and in the end deliver songs that stick in your head and are definably Demetra.
Over the last year, they have released a self-titled debut album and played throughout the Northeast. "Beam Me Up Scotty" was awarded "Track of the Day" on GarageBand and was featured on the CMJ Music Sampler. "Girlfight" was chosen for No Cover Magazine's June compilation distributed at all Barnes and Nobles nationwide. The band has also won several competitions through the revolutionary new site, ourstage.com.
